Ventricular tachycardia (VT) - LOC

Ventricular tachycardia (VT) - LOC

Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is an abnormal heart rhythm disturbance which causes the heart to beat in a rapid, and often uncoordinated, manner. Episodes of VT cause morbidity, and can often be lethal. Patients experiencing incessant VT can undergo highly-invasive catheter ablation therapy. This therapy aims to identify and ‘destroy’ the malbehaving cardiac tissue driving these rhythm disturbances. However, identifying the key effective sites to target during ablation procedures remains an intensive clinical problem.

Our research aims to develop, validate and clinically test a series of state-of-the-art computational tools, which combine patient imaging data and electrical measurements, along with in-silico ‘digital twin’ simulations and AI technologies, to more accurately localise the electrical waves driving the arrhythmia episode. Gaining such a better understanding of a patient’s specific VT will improve the efficacy of implanted defibrillators as well as the safety and success of ablation therapies, reducing the burden of VT in society.
